Aidar Syzdykov participating in the peaceful protest on 28 February 2021
On 12 May 2021, at 15:00 the court on politically motivated criminal case under Article 405 Part 2 ("participation in the extremist organization") will be held. On 19 April 2021 an investigator of the Investigative Division of the Astana City Police Department, Praliyev A.Sh. has drawn up an indictment against Aidar Syzdykov. "Grounds" of the indictment:
1. On 19 February 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a post on Facebook: "Dear like-minded people, the “Koshe Partiyasy” chat needs young, active administrators. If you have any questions, contact @Sunrisesuris and contribute to the development of democracy".
2. On 17 February 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a post on Facebook saying that on 22 February 2020, "Koshe Partiyasy" is go out to the protest.
3. On 20 February 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a video on Facebook in which he said that he was a civil activist and member of the "Koshe Partiyasy" movement and that he was go out to a peaceful protest in Astana on 22 February and that it was a constitutional right.
4. On 27 April 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a post on Facebook: "A package of DCK demands in support of the population and businesses".
5. On 28 May 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a Facebook post: "Alga Koshe Partiyasy" ("Go forward Koshe Partiyasy")(extract from the quotation).
6. On 11 June 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a Facebook post about how many people should go out to a peaceful protest to change the Nazarbayev regime.
7. On 12 June 2020, he reposted Mukhtar Ablyazov's Facebook post informing that there would be a subbotage (evening marches on Saturday) on 13 June.
8. On 23 July 2020, Aidar Syzdykov published a post on Facebook calling for the creation of units (structural and functional units of the "DCK" opposition movement) to carry out activism.
9. On 29 October 2020, he reposted a Facebook post by Mukhtar Ablyazov calling for a peaceful permitted protest to take place in Almaty on 31 October 2020.
10. Aidar Syzdykov has been illegally prosecuted on several occasions for allegedly "violating the law on peaceful assemblies".
On 27 April 2021, the deputy prosecutor of Astana, Kilymzhanov E.T., approved the indictment.
Aidar Syzdykov is being prosecuted for calling for and participating in peaceful protests, even for calling for participation in an authorised protest in Almaty on 31 October 2020. In its
resolution of 11 February 2021, the European Parliament has condemned the abuse of anti-extremism legislation by the Kazakhstani authorities to persecute supporters of the peaceful opposition movements “DCK” and “Koshe Partiyasy” and called on the Kazakhstani authorities "to drop politically motivated charges and end all forms of arbitrary detention, reprisals and harassment against human rights activists, religious organisations, civil society organisations, trade unions, journalists and political opposition movements".
We call on the US, the EU, the UK and Canada to impose personal sanctions on: the head of the National Security Committee, Karim Massimov; the General Prosecutor, Gizat Nurdauletov; and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Yerlan Turgumbayev.
