Political prosecution of Yerbol Yeskhozhin

 
On 14 April 2021 at 11:00, a court hearing on politically motivated case under Article 405 Part 1 ("organization of extremist organization") against the civil activist and political prisoner Yerbol Yeskhozhin will be held. On 11 March 2021, investigator of the Investigative Division of the Astana City Police Department, Captain Kalzhanov K.A., prepared an indictment against Yerbol Yeskhozhin.
 
"Grounds" for this politically motivated criminal case:
 
1) Yerbol Yeskhozhin participated and called for participation in peaceful protests, for which he was illegally brought to administrative responsibility under Article 488 ("violation of the law on peaceful assemblies").
2) On 9 February 2020, together with other activists, he "publicly announced the creation of the “Koshe Partiyasy”".
3) On 21 February 2020, Yerbol Yeskhozhin called for a peaceful protest on 22 February 2020.
4) On 24 May 2020, he published a statement on Facebook: "I will not go to the sanctioned rally of Mamay which will take place tomorrow...I do not believe Mamay and I will not go to the rally. I will go to the DCK rally!".
 
5) On 16 May 2020, together with other activists "took part in a video challenge congratulating Mukhtar Ablyazov on his birthday": "Our future is in your hands. Come back to the country quickly and we will reach our goal on the way to democracy!".
6) Since early 2018, Yerbol Yeskhozhin has been reposting Mukhtar Ablyazov's publications calling for peaceful protests.
7) On 5 June 2020, Yerbol Yeskhozhin called for a peaceful protest on 6 June 2020.
8) Since October 2020 Yerbol Yeskhozhin has been reposting the publications of the human rights movement "Veritas" about holding Asar - a public collection of humanitarian aid for the families of political prisoners and politically persecuted.
 
On 18 March 2021, the indictment was signed by the deputy prosecutor of the city of Astana, Kilimzhanov E. T.
 
In its resolution of 11 February 2021, the European Parliament has condemned the abuse of anti-extremism legislation by the Kazakhstani authorities to persecute supporters of the peaceful opposition movements “DCK” and “Koshe Partiyasy” and called on the Kazakhstani authorities "to drop politically motivated charges and end all forms of arbitrary detention, reprisals and harassment against human rights activists,  religious organisations, civil society organisations, trade unions, journalists and political  opposition movements".
