As of 15 March 2021, we have recorded (the full lists can be downloaded
here):

1) At least 29 civil activists and human rights defenders in Kazakhstan are political prisoners.
⠀
- Of these, 20 are in the pre-trial detention facilities while under investigation (19 persons under Articles 405 and/or 182).
⠀
2) At least 106 activists and human rights defenders are prosecuted under political criminal cases (including 20 persons in the pre-trial detention facilities).

- There are 13 persons under house arrest (under Articles 405 and/or 182).
⠀
- There are 73 persons under threat of arrest in the pre-trial detention facilities and imprisonment.
3) At least 75 persons are politically prosecuted for alleged "extremism" (under Articles 405 and/or 182).

4) At least 12 human rights defenders, activists, public figures and relatives of political prisoners and politically persecuted activists are politically prosecuted under Article 258 Part 2 ("financing of terrorist or extremist activities and other aiding and abetting") for paying administrative fines, lawyers' fees, helping to collect humanitarian aid for families of political prisoners and receiving humanitarian aid.

4) Since 22 June 2020, 26 persons have been sentenced to restriction of liberty in politically motivated criminal cases.
- Of these, 9 were sentenced in 2021 (8 - under Article 405 and 1 - under Article 378).

4) Politically motivated civil suits have been filed against two human rights defenders.
